Duolingo English Test: Alternate to IELTS!

All that you need to know about Duolingo exam!

The Duolingo English Test is an English Language Proficiency Test that is conducted

online. Candidates can take it at home on their personal computers from anywhere anytime. In a single slot of one hour, this exam assesses candidates' on the four language skills i.e. Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking, similar to other language proficiency tests. The results are available within 2 days (48 hours) and candidates can share it with anyone immediately. The candidates get scores between 10 and 160, with 110 considered as a decent score.

With an acceptance in over 1000 institutions, this test allows candidates to register with their driving license or any other government ID, in addition to passport. And the fee is only $49 (subject to change). Scores are valid for 2 years. All these features definitely give this exam an edge over other similar exams. However, candidates must check for its acceptance with the institution they are applying at.

DET is adaptive and the level of the exams gets difficult with each successive correct response and vice versa. There is a sample test available on the website to develop some familiarity with its pattern. A tentative score is also awarded for general idea of the candidate's performance. Since this test can be taken from home, there are some rules which the candidates need to follow to avoid cancellation of their test. This includes a silent environment with no background noise. The candidates cannot use headphones. Usage of mobile or any other device is prohibited. For any latest changes in these, one must check their website.

To avoid any technical glitches, the candidates need to have a perfect apparatus, like a computer with uninterrupted internet connection, a front facing camera, microphone and speakers.
